Are your vending machines ready for the new £1 coin?
The new 12-sided £1 coin comes into circulation this March. It has a number of features that makes it harder to counterfeit, which is great news for vending operators. The bad news: unless you’ve updated your machine’s payment system, it won’t recognise the new coin as legal tender. The new 12-sided £1 coin will be in co-circulation with the old round coin until October, after which the old coin will be demonetised.
Updating your payment system sooner rather than later ensures you won’t lose any sales from customers with the new £1 coin during the co-circulation period. It also means you’ll pre-prepared for October when the old coin is removed from circulation.
